HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Enhanced security rules will be in effect for persons attending the Arkansas State High School Basketball Tournament Thursday through Saturday at the Hot Springs Convention Center/Bank OZK Arena.

HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Enhanced security rules will be in effect for persons attending the Arkansas State High School Basketball Tournament Thursday through Saturday at the Hot Springs Convention Center/Bank OZK Arena.

Clear bags no larger than 14 inches by 14 inches by 6 inches will be allowed, according to Jennifer Wolcott, chief of operations for Visit Hot Springs. Only one such bag per person will be permitted, and all persons entering will be subject to search, Wolcott said.

“This same security precaution is now standard procedure at all sports and entertainment events across Arkansas,” she said. “We are simply adopting what other venues have been enforcing.”

No weapons of any kind will be allowed in the Convention Center or Arena, Wolcott said.

Prohibited items include:

• Knives of any kind

• Firearms of any kind

• Backpacks

• All bags larger than 14 x 14 x 6

• More than one clear bag per person

• Fireworks or pyrotechnics of any kind

• Outside food or beverages

• Beach balls

• Frisbees

• Confetti

• Streamers

• Laser pointers

• Balloons

• Noisemaking devices

• Audio or video recording devices other than mobile phones

• Signs, flags and banners

Other items deemed by staff to be potential safety or security threats also will be prohibited.

“The safety of all those attending the basketball tournament is our utmost concern,” Wolcott said. “The new enhanced security rules will ensure that everyone enjoys the games and surrounding activities without having to be concerned with their security. We think the public’s cooperation with our procedures will guarantee that.”
