HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Robotic rock ‘n’ roll band Cybertronic Spree will kick off Spa-Con 4, the multi-genre comics and pop culture convention that will be held September 20 – 22 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

“Spa-Con 4 has naturally evolved to have a robot-centric guest list with the 12-foot Bumblebee, Hulkbuster, Reinhardt and Arkansas Ironman making appearances,” said Bill Solleder, marketing director of Visit Hot Springs and one of the originators of Spa-Con. “We figured we might as well add a robotic rock ‘n’ roll band.”

The Cybertronic Spree concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Convention Center’s Horner Hall.  Concert admission is included in the price of a Spa-Con weekend pass. There is an option buy a standalone ticket to the concert for $10. There is an option buy a standalone ticket to the concert for $10.00.

Tickets are available at Spa-con.org. Early-bird tickets are on sale for Spa-Con 4 at www.spa-con.org. Weekend passes good for the entire convention are $25; day passes are $20, and VIP passes are $100. The  ticket prices will increase September 1.

The band will perform the soundtrack from its 1986 documentary, “The Transformers: The Movie Soundtrack,” —  “in full costume and at full volume.” It will also appear Saturday, September 21, at 5 p.m. in a panel discussion: “Robot Rockers: Getting Used to Earth Instruments.”

Cybertronic Spree’s version of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” has been viewed more than a million times on YouTube. The band continues to gain popularity with appearances at venues and cons across North America.

Spa-Con 4 also will feature a return engagement by Bumblebee, the spectacular 12-foot tall cosplay character who helped Spa-Con reap an award from the Arkansas Festival and Events Association.

Solleder said, “Our celebration of pop culture and comics brings together a diverse audience that loves everything from Batman to ‘Stranger Things,’ Pac-Man to Mario Smash Bros, Dungeons and Dragons to Pokemon and everything in between.

“This year we are featuring a return visit by Bumblebee, the spectacular 12-foot robot cosplay character who was such a hit at Spa-Con 3. A photo of Bumblebee arriving at Spa-Con 3 by Spa-Con photographer Alejandro Martinez of Hot Springs won the 2018 AlFiE award for Best Photo.”

Solleder said Spa-Con provides “possibly the best people-watching fun in the state. It has hosted celebrities from ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Twin Peaks,’ ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ and ‘Stranger Things,’ not to mention, NASA scientists and 12 foot tall robots.”

An average of 5,000 fans have attended each edition of Spa-Con, Solleder said, and at least that many are expected for the 2019 version.
