Self-guided Tour of Spa City Sites Featured in Book, 'The Vapors,' Posted on Internet by Visit Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — A self-guided tour of locations throughout Hot Springs mentioned in the bestselling new book, The Vapors – A Southern Family, the New York Mob, and the Rise and Fall of Hot Springs, America’s Forgotten Capital of Vice by Hot Springs native David Hill, has been posted here to the internet by Visit Hot Springs, the city’s tourism bureau.

“Nine Ways to Experience ‘The Vapors’” takes visitors on a self-guided tour to nine locations featured in the book, which has garnered praise from sources such as The New York Times, The New Yorker magazine and other media outlets worldwide.

Included are information and maps about the nine sites, which include the namesake Vapors nightclub, the home and gravesite of mobster Owen (Owney) Madden, the Ohio Club, Oaklawn Thoroughbred racetrack and others.

“David Hill’s book has been favorably reviewed all over America, and we decided that a website featuring a self-guided look at locations Hill mentions would be a valuable resource for readers, visitors and potential visitors alike,” said Visit Hot Springs Marketing Director Bill Solleder.

“Leslie Fisher, a media pro who calls Hot Springs her hometown, put together the tour and we are posting it on the internet at http://www.thevapors.hscvb.com/ "

“The tour gives a capsule description of the nine locations, shows a photo of each site and includes a map on how to find the sites. We believe it will enjoy tremendous popularity for the thousands of people who are enjoying the book.”
