Babe Ruth | History Lives in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas

#HistoryLives explores the rich and often sordid history of Hot Springs, Arkansas! Did you know Babe Ruth loved Hot Springs? The Great Bambino left Boston in 1918 to come to Hot Springs for Major League Baseball Spring Training. Babe sealed his reputation as the Sultan of Swing on March 17, 1918, when an exhibition game against the Brooklyn Dodgers led to Babe's almost 500-foot homerun, with the ball landing in the neighboring Arkansas Alligator Farm. One week later, Babe would out-do himself, hitting a grand-slam homerun 573-feet - the longest ball hit in baseball at the time. Babe Ruth left his mark on Hot Springs, and visitors today can stand in the same spot the Great Bambino once stood to hit his famous homerun.
