Bass Fishing Legend Jimmy Houston, Dallas Pop Hits Band Manhattan and ‘PAW Patrol’ Characters To Play Special Bridge Street LIVE Event September 6 To Welcome Pan American Fishing Championship to Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK, Arkansas — Bass fishing legend Jimmy Houston and Dallas pop hits band Manhattan will headline a special Bridge Street LIVE presentation Wednesday, September 6, to welcome the Pan American Bass Fishing Championship to Hot Springs.

For the kids, FLW fishing legend Charlie Evans will bring two of the “PAW Patrol” TV characters as part of the fun.

The Pan American Championship will be held on Lake Hamilton September 7 – 9. It features teams representing countries in North and South America and other countries around the globe.

Houston, who has been dubbed “America’s Favorite Fisherman,” is in his 46th year on national television. For 20 years, “Jimmy Houston Outdoors” has been ranked as the No. 1 outdoors show on ESPN. The show also airs on WFN, the Discovery Channel, Pursuit, You Too America, My Family TV, Walk TV, Action Network, Heartland TV, The AT&T Sports Southwest Network and Wired2Fish.

“Jimmy Houston Adventures” airs on: You Too TV, AT&T Sports SW, My Family TV, Hunt TV, Pursuit and Wired2Fish.

Manhattan, the Dallas pop hits band, was a crowd favorite when it played during the regular Bridge Street LIVE concert series in June, so Visit Hot Springs decided to bring them back for the special Pan American Championship kickoff.

“After their phenomenal performance at Bridge Street LIVE in June, we are so excited to bring Manhattan back to the Bridge Street LIVE Stage,” Visit Hot Springs Special Events Manager Alexis Hampo said. “Their energetic and interactive show really won the crowd over, and I can't wait to see everybody back in the street dancing.

“We are always aware of the need to include attractions for the kids,” said Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison, “so we are really pleased that FLW fishing legend Charlie Evans and characters from the ‘PAW Patrol’ show will be back in Hot Springs for the Pan American Championship kickoff on Bridge Street.

A competitive angler since 1971, Charlie Evans is the former FLW Outdoors president and CEO. In addition to his other roles at FLW Outdoors, Evans hosted the “FLW Outdoors” television show on Versus Country.

“PAW Patrol” is an animated series that premiered on Nickelodeon in the United States in 2013. The series focuses on a young boy named Ryder who leads a crew of search-and-rescue dogs that call themselves the PAW Patrol. They work together on missions to protect the shoreside community of Adventure Bay.

Each dog has a specific set of skills based on emergency services professions, such as a firefighter, police officer and aviation pilot. They all reside in doghouses that transform into customized vehicles for their missions. They are also equipped with backpacks called "pup packs" that contain tools that relate to the pups' jobs.

“What better way to welcome the Pan American anglers to Hot Springs, than to kick it off with a spectacular Bridge Street LIVE event?” Hampo said.
The September 6 event will begin at 5 p.m. with DJ Courier in the Bridge Street Entertainment District.

Manhattan will perform at 7 p.m., and Jimmy Houston and the “PAW Patrol” characters will make special appearances.

There will be food, drinks and vendors. No coolers are allowed. Lawn chairs are welcome, and pets must be on leashes. The event is free and open to the public.

Jimmy Houston is known as the hardest working bass fishing pro in the country. Since winning the Oklahoma State Championship as a college senior in 1966, Houston has gone on to win more than $1 million in bass tournaments. He has fished 15 BASSMaster Classics and won the B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year title in both 1976 and 1986. He stepped down from tournament fishing in 2020, primarily due to a change in rules where he would not be allowed to practice with his wife Chris.

He was inducted into the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2008, he was inducted into the IGFA Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame. He was named King of Sports for Fishing in 1989. In June of 2004, the Jim Thorpe Association recognized him as the Jim Thorpe Man of the Year.
